How financial institutions harm the Earth and us?
Why did we write it?
For the first sight environment and the activities of international financial institutions are very far away from each other. However, it is only the first sight.
In reality, economic activities and changes in the environment are interconnected - economic activity, the core of our activity changes our environment to the extent which brings disasters to us day by day. The international financial institutions (IFIs) are public institutions which are main agents in the global financial architecture. As public institutions they should be accountable for the public and act for the common good. However, their track record shows else. These institutions act to promotå partial economic interest and harm people and the environmentin tduring their operations in ex socialist and developing countries.
There is little knowledge on these institutions in depth but there is a growing demand from the side of public for this type of information. Our guide intends to provide a tool for the reader - not in the form of bed-side reading, more in a form of a manual. This tool is not only about information, but about action too. It is written with the aim to provide knowledge to concerned citizens to raise their voice if they have concerns about the operations of IFIs.
The Guide is the result of the ongoing work of several people and several organisations. The origin of respective pieces of the guide is indicated and deeper knowledge on the given topic can be obtained from them.
